Nudge Before Removal
Prioritize the use of nudges over the use of content removal in online forums – to encourage healthy conversation on both sides and de-escalate hateful discourse before taking offensive action.
How does this mitigate hate?
Using nudges instead of content removal can help to guide the conversation into a healthier direction – helping to de-escalate hateful discourse rather than taking actions that might anger and escalate the conversation in a more hateful direction.
Although nudges can help to de-escalate hateful discourse without taking offensive action, there are often situations where actions must be taken to remove content or users that are dangerously spreading hate, and not responding to nudges that are intended to de-escalate the conversation.
